MPMI Editor’s Pick: Trans-Specific Gene Silencing of Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase in a Root-Parasitic Plant
Parasitic plants seriously reduce crop productivity in many parts of the world. In this issue, Bandaranayake and Yoder show that interfering RNA designed against an essential gene of the parasitic plant Triphysaria versicolor and expressed in host Medicago truncatula plants was quite effective in inhibiting growth of the parasite. This work opens the door to a possible strategy for engineering resistance to parasitic plants.
